Course Description
Completing this course should:
Develop your ability to make ethical decisions in your practice;
Increase your understanding of the importance your professional ethics codes;
Extend your capacity to use therapeutic self-disclosure; and
Strengthen your ability to identify and resolve key issues regarding boundaries.
Barbara Alexander, LCSW, BCD, interviews four experts who discuss a variety of ethical and legal issues that confront practitioners.
Kathleen Murphy, PhD, discusses how to reason out clinical and ethical dilemmas using the principle of the best interest of the client as the primary principle. George Stricker, PhD, addresses therapeutic self-disclosure. Sandra Nye, MSW, JD, focuses on the issue of sexual involvement between client and therapist and the legal repercussions of personal involvement with patients and/or their families. Barbara Herlihy, PhD, presents an overview of boundaries in client/therapist relationships.
